Mid-Month January Progress Update
Posted on 14. Jan, 2009 by Derrick.
Hi All,
Haven’t had a chance to post anything yesterday as I got a bit exhausted from writing the last two articles (They took a whole day to write both as these are not my areas of expertise and I had to do some research to make sure what I was saying was valid :). So after that draining experience, It helped me refocus where I really want to go - to be a leader in Media, Tech, Entrepreneurship and Personal Development. As a result, I’ve also had to spend a bit time soul searching and considering where I am going with this project, and how it will fit in my grand plan:) I have committed to make this work. so don’t worry. I’m still moving forward
Anyways, One of things I haven’t really touched on are the 3 New Competitions Alex Jeffrey’s has launched:
- Most Creative Video (That must contain, Alex Jeffrey’s name, His Website and us introducing ourselves)
- Video that generates the most hits (with the above same criteria)
- 1st Person to create a webpage that gets ranked No.1 in google for the Name Alex Jeffreys.
Besides these competitions, I’ve also been busy working on some other articles and ideas. .so things are getting really busy around here :). . Anyway. with all my time spending on content creation, I haven’t had much time to spend on generating traffic and so sadly I missed my first traffic goal of 100 unique visitors per day (In fact it has had a slight dip from my high of around 50).
Dissapointing yes. . but I know I can make it up because of the projects and ideas I am working on right now.
So I’ve been working on developing a good routine, so that everyday I will spend at least 1 hour doing activities to generate traffic. Today my main method will be Oil Rig Hopping. That’s all I want to share today. .I’ll be posting up some good info in the next week (including information about making videos) . and don’t forget if there’s something you particularly want covered, just leave a comment and I’ll see what I can do!

Another Bump In the Road. . . Getting Down & Back Up
Posted on 30. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.
“Our doubts are traitors,
And make us lose the good we oft might win By fearing to attempt.”
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), “Measure for Measure”, Act 1 scene 4
As much as I hate to admit it, I was having some serious doubts yesterday about this whole project. I mean seriously can I really make this work? Will this actually work for me? I haven’t had much traffic yet (Granted, I haven’t done much to generate that traffic) , but could this actually work out for me?
My doubts worsened, as I received excited and enthusiastic emails about internet marketing, and as I read other people’s blogs who have really taken this all on board. . I reflected and asked myself - Am I as passionate as all these other ‘Successful’ Internet Marketers?
And unfortunately I have to admit, and say No. I am Not. I am not really that excited about internet marketing. I don’t really want to be ‘known’ and ‘promoted’ and ‘marketed’ as an internet marketer. How can I compete with so many others who are passionate about this subject and make it work? Maybe it was a mistake getting involved in all of this. . again? One of the other things I really don’t like, even though I understand the psychology behind it, is all the sales and marketing hype in this area.
Maybe I’m just jaded with all the ‘promises’ of success and wealth that the internet marketing arena espouses. Maybe I’m getting frustrated because I have very little to show for all the energy, time and money I have invested so far. Maybe my ADD is kicking in and I’m getting bored? Maybe I’m sabotaging my own success? or Maybe its all of the above?
PASSION
I Started to think about what I was Passionate about. . Technology, entertaining and educating. . I got excited about developing the tech site I have been working on. and sharing the latest and greatest technology . I began to think maybe I should be doing that. . I’ll be more inspired and passionate. I would love it. . . . .
Then after a few moments on that mindtrip. . I had to rein myself back, reminding myself one of the keys to making anything successful, is to keep a single focus - I really need to make this one site successful before I starting to work on another . .
RANDOM ENCOURAGEMENT
I went back to surfing the web. and came across another internet blogger who’s been making his income just from blogging. Steve Pavlina. I really liked his approach. he has a much more laid back and relaxed style, as opposed to all the pushing and hardsell out there. . I was feeling a bit less doubtful and my faith in blogging and internet marketing was partially restored.
Then somehow in my surfing I landed on Youtube, and saw a great cover of that song “I’m Yours by Jason Mraz” by this young songwriter and producer David Choi. Wow. this guy is good. It was such a good rendition, I got a bit emotional and I got inspired.
Earlier in the day. . I had started going out visiting posts as part of my Gold Digging Expedition. When I came back to check my blog I was very happy to see that Hiliary Dickinson, one of the blogs I visited had posted something on my blog. I got excited again. Funny how a simple post can make a difference!. Thanks Hiliary :).
And after a good chat with a friend on the phone, and another on skype. . I got back on track. I just needed to refocus and remember the reason why I started this and what my long term goals are, get some inspiration and of course some encouragement and signs of progress! And that’s one of the great things when you’re working within a team or group, everyone’s helping each other move forward, and seeing others progress, inspires and motivates.
So for now, I’ve left that doubt behind and I’m back ready to take more concentrated and focused action to drive that traffic

Technical Issues - I Hate It when this happens :)
Posted on 23. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.
Hi everyone,
If you have tried to drop by in the last 12 hours or so, you may have got this error message on my page:
I was quite angry and stressed last night when I came home at midnight and found this out. . Luckily after a while, I got things into perspective
- Afterall its not like i’m getting 1000’s of visitors right now and this site is generating me an income, so better for it to happen now and work out the problem, then in the next few days, when I am getting more traffic :). Tried to problem solve with live support, but eventually had to post a support ticket and the techs work in it.
. so I was very happy to wake up this morning and see that the site is back up, however not happy that none of the pages work, and neither do the posts if you try and click through to leave a comment. I’ve reposted my support ticket, so hopefully this will be fixed soon. Just another minor obstacle / stepping stone on the way up! - I’ll update the blog, once everyghings back to normal :). thanks for dropping by!!

Obstacles & Frustrations In Blogging
Posted on 15. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.
Yesterday marked the beginning of me dedicating my focus full time on this blog (at least for a 4 weeks anyway) and it was beset with frustration. I’ve spent at least 4 hours looking for a new theme, and if that wasn’t frustrating enough, I didn’t actually find one I liked. So far I think I’ve spent at least 8-10 hours looking for themes and I think i need to stop this insanity! so I’ve decided to keep this theme for the moment, till I stumble on a better more suitable one.
Ok. .so Yesterday was supposed to be my time to visit all of Alex’s Other student’s sites. but the theme hunting took over, and then lucky me. .my brand new Macbook Pro died on me after only 5 days of use. . so right now I’m on my partners macbook, on hold with apple customer support hoping that I’ll be able to get my laptop replaced.
Wow. .67 minutes on support, and now I need to run some software in the hope of recovering my last 5 days work. .I hope this will all be fixed by this evening so I can get back to driving traffic to my blog!. . Wish me luck!
