Alex Jeffrey’s New FREE eBook - Newbie’s Nightmare Released!

I’ve been enjoying an extended holiday over the last month and a half travelling to Hong Kong, London and Paris and have now relocated to Singapore for the time being enjoying the rare pleasure of feeling like I’m in a sauna 24/7:), In any case I’m ready to get back into some blogging!

Anyways I just got an email a couple of days ago letting me know Alex Jeffrey’s has just made his latest Free ebook “Newbie’s Nightmare” available online. So I thought I’d make a quick post about it.

Last year I was involved with his Internet Marketing Coaching program (and hence the birth of this website:) and while he was teaching a lot of strategies and important information on how to be successful online, he also learned a great deal himself about his students and rolling out a coaching program. One of the things he learned was some of the most common reasons why 99% of people fail to make money online. He shares this for free in his ebook Newbie’s Nightmare as well as some of the key strategies to make money online successfully. At just 46 pages its an easy but powerful read. I’ll be doing a full review in the coming days. . in the meantime you can download Newbie’s Nightmare yourself for Free here.

Directory Submission - Save Yourself Up To 179 Hours But Still Get Your Site Listed In All The Directories.

Posted on 11. Jan, 2009 by Derrick.

2

Just got off the phone from a friend of mine who is an SEO Expert, and he suggested using another tool to get your websites submitted to the directories. Before we go further, here is a quick summary from Wikipedia of what Directories do and why they are important in getting traffic:

‘Today submission of websites to web directories is considered as a common SEO (search engine optimization) technique to get vital back-links for the submitted web site. One distinctive feature of ‘directory submission’ is that it can not be fully automated like search engine submissions. Manual directory submission is a tedious and time consuming job and is often outsourced by the webmasters.’

If you don’t know already, back-links, or links from other sites coming to your site, is a very important variable to show search engines that you are an important site - as it is expected that the more links to your site and the better quality links - (including links that are relevant, from highly ranked sites) , the more favourable the search engines will rank you and therefore get you more traffic.

Notice also the quote said - it’s a time consuming job. I tried Directory Submitter as mentioned previously, and it took me about an hour to submit to 10 directories - very time consuming if you realise that there are 350 sites in the FREE Version of Directory Submitter, and over 1800 in the paid version. (ie it would take about 35 hours to submit to all the directories for the FREE version and 180 hours for the paid version!! (It is however worth taking a look and reading the copy of Directory Submitter to understand more about directories)

Why does it take so long? Well, to get your site listed in any Directory, you need to provide details of your website :

  • URL
  • Category
  • Sub Category
  • Title
  • Description
  • Keywords

So normally you would need to firstly have a list of all the directories, and then go to each directory and submit these details.  VERY TIME CONSUMING.

Directory submitter allows you to firstly input this data into its database, and saves time by having the  listing of all the directories within the program (with page rank, so you can start from the highest page rank(10) to the lowest(0)).  You just click on the directory you wish to submit to, and it loads the page up into its inbuilt browser, and automatically copy and pastes the details you have entered previously into the directory’s site submission page.

This definitely saves time, but you still often need to select the best fitting category, as every directory has a different category system - so just looking through their category structure to find the category that best fits your site takes time, and sometimes the program doesn’t always fill in all the blanks (if the directory has additional fields etc).  So that’s Why it takes time, even with the time saving features of Directory Submitter. (which probably at least cuts the time needed by half.)

So naturally I complained about the time it takes to submit to the directories to my SEO friend, and he suggested a much better option that I wasn’t aware of - Directory Maximizer - A service that will manually submit your website to the directories for you.  They only charge 14cents per directory - That means instead of investing 1 hour to submit to 10 directories, I can get it done for $1.40. (And my time is definitely worth more than that! - I’m sure yours is too! :)

Other advantages of using this system is:

  • Increased  chances of link approval as they ensure your site meets all the directory guildelines
  • Live up to date reports on the progress of your submissions
  • Choose how many directories to submit to - and can select by page rank
  • Target multiple search terms by submitting up to 20 different tiles and descriptions
  • Control the pace of the submissions - as it is better to step the submissions over a period of time (2-5 weeks), as a sudden influx of back links in a short period of time, does not look good to google.

Anyway, This definitely seems to be worth the cost, and is going to be my first job at outsourcing work that is going to make me more effective - you can take a look at Directory Maximzer here.

Have you done directory submissions? - What do you think?

Stay tuned later today, as I’ll be writing about how to write articles :)

Obstacles & Frustrations In Blogging

Posted on 15. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.

0

Yesterday marked the beginning of me dedicating my focus full time on this blog (at least for a 4 weeks anyway) and it was beset with frustration.  I’ve spent at least 4 hours looking for a new theme, and if that wasn’t frustrating enough, I didn’t actually find one I liked.  So far I think I’ve spent at least 8-10 hours looking for themes and I think i need to stop this insanity!  so I’ve decided to keep this theme for the moment, till I stumble on a better more suitable one.

Ok. .so Yesterday was supposed to be my time to visit all of Alex’s Other student’s sites. but the theme hunting took over, and then lucky me. .my brand new Macbook Pro died on me after only 5 days of use. . so right now I’m on my partners macbook, on hold with  apple customer support hoping that I’ll be able to get my laptop replaced.

Wow. .67 minutes on support, and now I need to run some software in the hope of recovering my last 5 days work.  .I hope this will all be fixed by this evening so I can get back to driving traffic to my blog!. . Wish me luck!

Week 3 : Day 17 - Session 4 - Brainstorming!

Posted on 12. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.

1

Session 1.0 Brainstorming.

Been working overtime on this blog, and missed a bit of sleep. . so .. it wasn’t surprising that I woke up late and missed the first hour and a bit of todays Coaching Session with Alex Jeffreys.  All good though. . also in the middle of migrating to a new computer so my files are everywhere. . big file clean up coming up this week!. . The best part of today’s session was getting some feedback on my current site, as well as everyday seeing people making progress and hearing the small successes everyone is having with building their sites. All very inspiring!

Anyway, the big takeaway for me today, was that the site looked a little too ‘Corporate’ and not personal enough.  -  I am a little bit hesitant to drop this theme right now, (as I have spent considerable time learning and customising it) however if people feel that it does not serve the purpose of being a blog, and most importantly ease of use, then I will change :). . I have subsequently spent the last 2 or so hours trying to find a theme I like, but haven’t come across something yet, so will just leave it as it is until I do find something. In the meantime,  I thought why not try something new for me and put a POLL on this site, and get a gauge on what you all think of the current look and feel - so please give me some feedback and vote in the box to the right :) All feedback appreciated!

Now, as I have been working (and doing a lot of interstate travel with my work), I haven’t had much time to dedicate to this project, but that all changes come next week, when I am off on an extended holiday.  So be expecting to see at least one post a day as I document what I’m doing to make this blog as best as it can be. . any suggestions or comments are most welcome.

Welcome To My Adventures In Internet Marketing

Posted on 05. Dec, 2008 by Derrick.

1

Hi and Welcome to my  my Adventures in Internet Marketing Blog.  About a week ago, I signed up to a coaching program designed to show me how to be successful online, so I’ve decided to document my experiences over the next few weeks in my final attempt to make it work :). . I hope you’ll join me on this (hopefully) exciting journey!

THE BEGINNING:

Final attempt I hear you say? well, let me share a bit about my internet marketing experiences - I first came across the whole concept of internet marketing in Aug 2000 when I attended the late

Corey Rudl

Corey Rudl

Cory Rudl’s Internet Marketing Seminar in Sydney (Now run by Derek Gehl- his internet marketing partner).  I was so excited about the whole concept I ended up spending over $5000.00 on all his products and seminars.

The problem back then was the internet was just at its very beginning, I had a Mac and all the programs were for PC. . I had to use a program called Virtual PC to run them, and contrary to what the marketing hype said, it was DOG SLOW!  Despite this I created some websites, however hit several blocks and frustrations not only with the inability to use the programs, but also learning html(Program language for the web), making everything work, and getting traffic.   Spent a few hundred more dollars on domain names, hosting etc.  and after a much effort and virtually no return on my investment  my passion for the concept soon wore out. . .

2004:

Fast track to 2004, and I had an idea. . I love Entertainment and performing, particularly TV Presenting , and after meeting up with one of the best TV Presenter Tutors in Sydney,Nick Piper, I ran an idea by him about creating a multimedia course for aspiring TV Presenters.  We discussed and mulled over the idea and looked at the market. . We felt it was viable. . Over the next 3 years, we developed, wrote and produced the product. I also designed and packaged the product, developed and designed the website through its many incarnations and attempted to create its internet marketing campaigns.

To help me with the internet marketing I decided I would go over to Washington DC to attend a 3 Day internet Marketing Seminar (which cost about another $5000!).   It was very exciting of course to travel there, made some friends and got a lot of great information.  Much of it was probably too advanced for what I needed.  However I soon started working hard when I got back.   I spent probably an equivalent to 1.5 years full time on the project to get it where it is today. . . The website started accepting orders in the new year of 2007. . . .The excitement of the first few sales was amazing.  however after spending 3 months full time getting the site up, I was exhausted. and ran out of time and resources to continue the marketing.   Looking back there is definitely many more easier ways to get an online business up, rather than developing and producing your own product first up!. .

There have been many other mini projects in between, mostly unprofitable, but always mind expanding :) (at least that’s what I tell myself).

THE NEW BEGINNING:

Now its late 2008 and I’m ready to give it one last shot. . I still haven’t given up on our HowToBeATVStarsite - I know it can be profitable once I get the marketing right for it.  I’ve been working crazy hard on my 9 to 5 for the last few months. and just about to take some time off, and ready to reinvest some time into the project.  I really feel I just need someone to show me what to do step by step to make it happen, to focus on the important things that matter and the things that are going to make it work. . .

Mike Filsaime

Mike Filsaime

And this leads me to today -  a week ago. . .I got an email from Mike Filsaime of Butterfly Marketing Fame (who I saw at the world internet marketing summit in 2006) about one of his most successful students doing a coaching program.

When Mike spoke at the seminar back in 2006, I was considering doing his coaching program for $5000.00. . but thought I had better not as I felt I had spent too much. . anyways.. .now 2 years later this same student who did pay that $5000 back then (but in the UK) , is making about US$20K/month. . so last Sunday night after watching a 37 minute sales video about why I should do his program, I decided I would take a chance on this one.  It wasn’t cheap, but it wasn’t expensive either - and I have been to many seminars and workshops! ( yes. .I was a seminar junkie in my past life!).  I’ll reveal more about who this coach is in the next day. . . .

THE FIRST SESSION

I Just had the first session via an online presentation with audio on the 26th November.  Lots of great common sense advice, but of course thats the problem with common sense, obvious, common, but not very common in practice :).  Anyways part of the take aways from this first session was to set up a blog. . so here’s mine - yes it has taken a few days to get it up, but i’m happy to say it is finally up!. . I plan to update you with my progress (and hopefully my internet marketing bank account as well ) over the next few weeks!. .

I will be committing to writing at least 2 times a week to update this blog on my progress. .

Would love to hear your thoughts, comments or suggestions
